About SSLs For Free

Making HTTPS free and accessible for every website owner - powered by Let's Encrypt, built by DigitalHubz.

Who We Are

SSLs For Free is a free SSL certificate service built and maintained by DigitalHubz, a digital solutions company focused on making web infrastructure tools accessible to everyone.

We created SSLs For Free because SSL certificates - the technology behind the padlock icon and HTTPS - were once expensive and complex to obtain. Today, thanks to Let's Encrypt, they're free. Our job is to make the process simple enough that any website owner, regardless of technical skill, can secure their site in minutes.

Our Mission

Every website deserves HTTPS. Not just the ones with budgets for annual certificate renewals, not just the ones run by developers comfortable with command-line tools - every website.

Our goal: Remove every barrier between a website owner and a valid, trusted SSL certificate. No paywalls. No CLI required. No confusing jargon. Just a secure site.

The Technology Behind Every Certificate

Every SSL certificate issued through SSLs For Free comes from Let's Encrypt - a free, automated, and open Certificate Authority (CA) run by the nonprofit Internet Security Research Group (ISRG).

Let's Encrypt certificates are trusted by all major browsers and operating systems, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, iOS, and Android. They are identical in trust level to certificates sold by commercial CAs - the difference is that Let's Encrypt issues them for free, automatically, using the ACME protocol.

SSLs For Free provides a web-based interface to the ACME protocol, so you get the same trusted certificate without needing to install Certbot or run any shell commands.

Trusted by All Browsers

Let's Encrypt is a publicly trusted CA. Certificates work in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and every major mobile browser.

Unlimited Certificates

Generate as many certificates as you need - single domain, multiple domains, or wildcard - with no caps and no upgrade prompts.

Wildcard Support

Secure your domain and every subdomain with a single wildcard certificate (*.yourdomain.com). Fully free, no premium tier required.

90-Day Validity

Let's Encrypt certificates are valid for 90 days. Renew anytime for free - we'll also send you a reminder before expiry.

How Domain Verification Works

Before issuing a certificate, Let's Encrypt verifies that you control the domain you're requesting a certificate for. SSLs For Free supports two verification methods:

  • HTTP File Upload - Upload a small verification file to your website's root directory. Works on any web host that gives you file access.
  • DNS TXT Record - Add a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings. Required for wildcard certificates, and works without any web server access.

Both methods are standard ACME protocol challenges. Once verified, your certificate is issued and available for download immediately.
